There comes a time in life when we start noticing changes we never used to think about. We may feel tired sooner. Our joints may ache. Our strength may not be what it once was. And for many people—especially in the later years—these changes can feel discouraging.
But the Bible speaks directly to this reality with a message full of hope:
“Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” — 2 Corinthians 4:16
This verse is honest. It doesn’t pretend aging is easy. It doesn’t ignore pain, weakness, or hard days. It acknowledges something we all see: the “outward” part of life—our bodies—can wear down over time. That is normal, and it happens to everyone.
But then comes the powerful promise: “Yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”
That means even if the body is weaker, the heart can grow stronger. Even if energy is lower, peace can be deeper. Even if the world feels heavy, God can lift your spirit.
Many people think renewal only happens when life improves or problems disappear. But God’s renewal is different. It is spiritual strength that can exist even in the middle of difficulty. It is hope that remains even when circumstances don’t change quickly. It is joy that can still shine through tears.
What does it mean to be “renewed day by day”?
It means God gives strength for today—not always for next year, not always for everything at once, but for today. He gives comfort for today. Patience for today. Courage for today. And if tomorrow is hard too, He will be there again.
Sometimes renewal looks like waking up with a little more calm. Sometimes it looks like a prayer that finally brings peace. Sometimes it looks like feeling God’s presence when you thought you were alone. Sometimes it looks like the ability to forgive, to love, to keep going, and to trust Jesus one more day.
This verse also reminds us that your life is not measured only by what you can do physically. You still have purpose. You still have value. Your prayers matter. Your words matter. Your faith matters. And the kindness you show can be a blessing to your family, your friends, and anyone God places in your path.
If you’re reading this and you’ve been feeling worn down, take this as your reminder: God is not finished with you. He can renew you from the inside out. Even on the days when you feel weak, God can give you strength that doesn’t come from the body—it comes from Him.
So today, take a deep breath and give your worries to Jesus. Ask Him for renewal. Ask Him for peace. Ask Him for strength for this one day.
Because God’s promise is still true: outwardly we may change, but inwardly He can renew us day by day.
