There are moments in life when we need courage more than ever. Not the kind of courage that comes from muscles or youth—but the quiet courage that comes from faith. As we get older, life can bring new worries: health concerns, loneliness, family problems, financial stress, or simply the fear of the unknown. And sometimes, even strong believers can feel weak.
That’s why Deuteronomy 31:6 is one of the most powerful promises in the Bible:
“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
This verse is not telling you to pretend everything is fine. It’s not saying you must always feel brave. It’s a reminder that your strength does not have to come from you alone. God’s presence is the reason you can be strong.
The first words are clear: “Be strong and courageous.”
That sounds easy until we face real life. But the verse doesn’t stop there. God gives the reason: “For the Lord your God goes with you.” You are not walking through this season alone. Not through sickness, not through pain, not through grief, and not through hard days. God is with you in the hospital room, in the quiet house, in the sleepless night, and in every moment you feel like no one understands.
Then comes the promise that calms the heart: “He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
People may come and go. Friends may get busy. Family may live far away. But God is not like people. His love is steady. His care is constant. When you feel forgotten, God remembers you. When you feel alone, God is near.
Sometimes the hardest part of aging is not the physical changes—it’s the feeling that life is shrinking. Fewer places to go, fewer people to see, more time alone with thoughts. That’s where this verse becomes a lifeline. God is reminding you: your life still has meaning. You are still His. And you are still being carried through every day with purpose.
Courage also means continuing to trust Jesus even when you don’t know what tomorrow will bring. It means praying even when you feel tired. It means choosing hope when fear tries to take over. And you don’t have to do it perfectly—God simply asks you to lean on Him.
Here is a simple way to live this verse today:
When worry rises, say out loud: “Lord, You are with me.”
When fear shows up, say: “You will never leave me.”
When you feel weak, pray: “Jesus, give me strength for today.”
God does not promise a life without troubles, but He promises something better: His presence through every trouble. That’s why you can be strong and courageous—because the One who holds the world is also holding you.
If you believe God will never leave you, type “AMEN” 🙏
